The Euro Drugstore Beauty Edit
Makeup lovers… Imagine travelling to a distant land full of its own cult brands and products for you to discover. Last month (as regular readers would know) I had this opportunity! I set myself a mission before I left… To discover as many Euro drugstore heroes as I could and by making good use of sales assistants and unassuming fellow consumers at many a counter to find out what locals were loving! The majority of my drugstore purchases happened in London, Paris and Rome.
In London I hit up as many Boots and Superdrug stores as possible. Boots is very much like Australia’s Priceline except most stores also included their own instore Benefit counter as well as some high end counters. I picked up some great products from the brands Soap & Glory (which is one of those inbetweenie brands) as well as some suer hyped up products from Collection Cosmetics.
Superdrug contained rows and rows of shelved filled to the brim with purely drugstore brands such as Makeup Revolution, I *heart* makeup, MUA and more.
In Paris things were a little more difficult. With very little to go off I scoured the streets and came across stores such as HEMA ( a variety store) and MonoPrix (Think Big W but with a supermarket attached) Monoprix had an enormous amount of variety in well known brands Bourjois and L’Oreal (So much L’Oreal) but I was after something different. So I did something different. I asked strangers for help! I asked what their favourite products were!
I also spent a lot of time in BHV an upmarket department store not unlike Myer. BHV had a lot of high end products (that haul is coming soon) but also housed a good amount of drugstore goodies. Again I turned to sales assistants and other shoppers to guide me to what what good. Everyone told me the same thing.. Biguine! I picked up a few products from the brand, with the sales assistant actually going “to the back” to get me an item I HAD TO TRY!
Onto to Rome I made firm friends with the brand Kiko Milano their powder products blew me away with their colour payoff and blendability and I with that this brand was more easily available in Australia.
