NailMania – OPI Neons Collection
If ever there was an OPI collection that fully captured my love of all things bright and cheery it would have to be the Neons Collection which was released to coincide with the Northern Hemispheres summer some months ago.
I’ve had a good while to play with the shades and now with Summer in full swing I thought I would share my thoughts on this collection of bright nail colours.
I rushed out to David Jones to buy this collection as soon as it hit shelves and purchased the entire set in mini form which was aptly named “Little bits of neon”
The set contains five mini polishes in the shades.
Down To The Core-Al – which is a neon coral (leans on the orange side) with a coral shimmer.
You Are So Outta Lime! is a bright neon green creme but lacks the almost fluoro qualities of some of the other shades.
While I find that generally OPI polishes are usually the best formulas around I was left feeling a little disappointed with this collection. The first thing that I found slightly annoying was these shades didn’t really meet their full potential unless you bought the accompanying base coat “Put a coat on” which is a white base coat that allows the colours to ‘POP” Once there is a white base coat these colours look great.
Left to right – Juice bar hopping, Life gave me lemons (excuse the mess), hotter than you pink and you are so outta lime |
While the colours are all gorgeous I found some of them a little streaky and hard to build up colour. This is not as noticeable when you apply them to bare nails, but with the white base coat it is more apparent than with usual OPI colours.
Left to right- Hotter than you pink, you’re so outta lime, Down to the core-al and Push and Pur-pull |
The finish of these polishes lacked the usual gloss of regular OPI polishes. They dry to an *almost* matte finish which you may or may not like. When topped with a glossy top coat these shades really took on more of a gorgeous neon look that were really eye catching (this is how they’ve been photographed above)
All in all I really like the idea and the shades available in this collection but am disappointed with the formula somewhat. I still think they’re perfect for someone who loves their neons but be prepared to spend time building up coats (usually 3)
