NYE is the one night of the year that too much sparkle is not enough. Whether you’re after some subtle twinkle or full on disco party there are a multitude of products at every price point to help you shine. Here are some of my top tips.

Depending on your look you might just want to play up the eyes or the lips or focus on super lit up skin.

Personally I prefer to focus on super luminous skin and it starts with a hydrating and brightening primer in the form of MACs strobe cream. It goes on smoothly and helps create a nice even base for makeup. I’ll follow up with my regular foundation and concealer before applying a nice subtle blush like NARS powder blush in the iconic shade of orgasm.

While this shade is pretty and can be quite subtle the small amount of gold through it helps to lift the cheek and subtly highlight the area. It’s all together lovely and is a cult favourite for a reason.

To get that lit within look us mere mortals need to rely on illuminators and highlighters. For a cool, pink toned shine use a product like Benefit’s High Beam. The luminescent icy pink liquid blends like a dream and is known as model in a bottle. If you’re after a warmer toned highlight Benefit also has you covered with Watt’s Up a champagne coloured cream stick. Both are awesome products in my opinion and have been in my collection for years. If you prefer a powder product my favourite highlighter of all time Thebalm’s Marylouminizer looks amazing when swept lightly down the nose and on the top of the cheek bones.

When the clock strikes twelve and you lean in for the New Years kiss you don’t want to be worrying about smudging and transferring so I will be wearing my Rimmel Provocalips* 16 hour kiss proof Lipcolour in the shade little minx. Not only will I not need to worry about leaving my mark on my man but I also won’t need to retouch and will be pucker perfect at midnight.

Let’s be honest, things can get a little messy on NYE so we don’t want to be worried about running, smearing and smudging our makeup as we dance the night away. I’ll be keeping it simple with a simple eye highlighted with Stila’s kitten eyeshadow and some winged liner using a waterproof eyeliner like this one from Stila. Then to finish it all off some gorgeous (but not too over the top) lashes from Eyelure and a quick coat of mascara to blend it all together. I’m loving the Max Factor Masterpiece Transform* at the moment

That glow and glitz doesn’t just apply to your face, you can add shimmer and highlight products to you shoulders collar bone and décolletage to contour and define your best assets. Products like the Jane Iredale Golden Shimmer lotion can be applied to the arms and legs to boost your natural (or fake) tan with a warm golden glow.

To finish off your look you might want a blinging mani, as we all know you’ll need perfectly polished tips as you toast in the new year with a glass of bubbly. For those who struggle painting their own nails a product like these glue on nails from manicare are perfect. There are lots of designs available including these super glam glitter tips and they’re as easy as press an go. If you’re after something simple but pretty you can go past a naked glitter gradient that is no base colour coat.

This polish named “hors d’oeuvres ” is perfect for glitter gradient effects as there is a good mix of large and small glitters. To achieve this look you need to apply one coat of the polish to the whole nail, then apply another coat to only half the nail and then a third just to the tip so that the glitter is more concentrated as you move down the nail.
