Its so good to get away sometimes! We recently escaped the daily grind and headed down to Melbourne for a week in order to rest, recuperate and celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary. In true lipstick n linguine fashion the majority of our time revolved around walking, eating and drinking at some great establishments along with a healthy dose of shopping (poor Mr LnL)
The majority of our days had a fairly late start (leaving the hotel at about 10am) and we would make on the spur decisions about what we would do that day. We used our feet as our win mode of transport only paying for a tram on the day we headed to St Kilda. We explored the streets of Carlton and Fitzroy on some days as well as hours wandering through the tiny lane ways looking at the street art and people watching.
We stayed at the very comfortable Intercontinental Rialto on Collins st and we were a short walk to the casino precinct, DFO shopping centre, Flinders lane and shopping precincts.
Here are a few of my highlights.
No trip to Melbourne is complete without a trip to the Queen Vic markets and the
American Doughnuts van. 5 piping hot fried balls of dough filled with jam? Yes please!
Well well well, guess who came across Australia’s first H&M store by accident!

I wish we had stopped to have tea here at the Hopeton Tea rooms on in the Collins

Another Melboure to do is to head to St Kilda for a day of relaxation by the sea
and a wander uo Ackland street for browsing shops and drooling at the
cake shop windows.
